Dear list.

Finaly I was able to run LCS software for Leica SP2 on 64-bit Windows 7 OS.
There were several problems, but I solved nearly all of them and now it
seems the system is correctly working and scanning. However, a little more
time is needed to fully test all funcions.

For thoose who are interested in details I would like to share my experience:

At first I tryied to do a fresh install of LCS onto the Win XP system which
I described in the previous post
(http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind1411&L=confocalmicroscopy&D=0&T=0&P=14110).
The first five steps are the same.

When succesfully completed I reinstall completely the system with Windows 7
Professional 64-bit. I used the same computer when I found it supports
64-bit achitecture.

I found and downloaded win7 compatible drivers for all the hardware needed:
a) Adaptec SCSI Card 29160 -ultra 160 SCSI (SCSI port where scanner is
connected) - driver is installed by OS with no problems. However:
http://www.adaptec.com/en-us/support/scsi/u160/asc-29160/

b) Decision PC COM PCI 4 port (it is multiport serial adapter where on which
laser table is connected): Decision drivers:
http://www.pccompci.com/driver/4p232-SMD.html

c)netMOS9835 PCI Multi-I/O controller (driving my additional serial port
where a motorized stage controller is connected). Drivers:
http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/ScopedViewRedirect.aspx?updateid=20f3e53d-a33c-4d4f-a6fc-fe5e303dfbfb

Then I installed LCS program in WinXP (SP3) compatibility mode. This is
neccessary, otherwise you will end with warning message that this OS is not
supported (only XP and NT4.0). Of course I backcopy hardware and other
settings from the XP installation. (see steps 6) and 7) in previous
post-(http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind1411&L=confocalmicroscopy&D=0&T=0&P=14110)).

Then I stopped for a while because "Dongle was not found". This take me a
little time, but fortunatelly there is a solution: Install newest Rainbow
Sentinel SuperPro driver -
http://www.rainbow.com.my/support.php?id=1&PHPSESSID=5d07dtqa7gt737k8039nk43cu3

From now LCS see a dongle and is nearly able to initialize hardware (scanner
etc.). I just had to change Decision ports mapping to COM3-COM6 manually in
win hardware manager. - So far I was not able to do this permanent for some
reason. I need to do it each restart time. But I am sure there must be some
solution.

Voilá, LCS started (in XP compatibility mode of course, otherwise it has a
problem to find scanner on SCSI port) and correctly initialized all the
hardware (scanner,
microscope stand, AOBS, AOTF etc. including motorized stage). However, a
problem with openning files (mentioned by Zdenek Svindrych) occured. More,
when I tryied to scan, hard error message occured "code:1010" and then SW
freeze. This means that LCS doesn't speak to a DataContainerServer. Thought
it is the end.

Fortunatelly Leica continues using LCS software as a hardware server,
including a better compiled DataContainer. So the solution is easy! Just
install newer version
of LAS AF (I tryied a version 2.7.3 and newest one LAS X).(URL:
http://www.leica-microsystems.com/products/microscope-software/software-for-life-science-research/las-x/#downloads).
In the c:\Program Files (x86)\Leica Microsystems CMS GmbH\LAS AF\DCservice\
folder locate LMSDataContainerBase.dll, LMSDataContainerServer.exe and
LMSDCServiceControl.exe and copy them to the c:\Program Files
(x86)\Leica\Data Container\Data Container V1\. This is not so easy, these
files are well protected. You have to set up writing permitions for USER
account in right click > Properties, tab security for each file
independetly. After that you can ovewrite them with new ones. It is also a
good idea to check in process manager from where DCserver is started at
first and change respective files!

This is all. LCS is now running very well. I am going to test the full
funcionality over next week. I will likely find some other minor problems,
so I will report.
Thank you for the support.

Best Regards
Ondrej.

PS: you can find drivers and files I needed here:

Please note that your TCS SP2 setup may recquire different drivers!

Dear Ondrej,
congratulations to your success! I gave up a long time ago...

What a pitty I don't have an SP2 to play with anymore.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Good job!

Best,

zdenek
