Hi Silke,

Very often heat is produced at a certain point (e.g. Argon laser ventilator, multiphoton (MP) laser chiller). In our institute, we could reduce the heat load by discharging heat into an exhaust system directly at the point of heat generation. This can reduce the air exchange rate, but we still have 8 volume changes per hour.  A tight connection to the exhaust system should be avoided, because this can cause overheating if there is a failure in the exhaust system. If the heat load is too high, consider insulating the hot air exhaust tubes to prevent thermal radiation into the room. Additionally, we have cooling convector units in the rooms which can cool down the room by another 2 °C.

Best wishes,

Christian
