(This drops to ~1/8 of the power if you choose to use the smaller 25 micron disk for low power objectives.) This is primarily due to the area of illumination, but also partly due to the increased pinhole spacing in the CSU-W, which is how it reduces cross-talk to allow imaging of thicker specimens. Thus, you could consider that you need to use four times the exposure time or four times the laser power. However, in terms of illumination/excitation amount, this would be the same as the CSU-X. 2) No, it's not a problem to image fast processes on the CSU-W, as long as you have the laser power. See item above and #4 (Borealis) below. 3) Comparing EMCCD with sCMOS is best shown here: https://www.andor.com/learning-academy/a-comparison-of-scmos-and-emccd-digital-camera-technologies-for-spinning-disk-confocal-microscopy-application-note I would say that the choice comes down to how large a field of view you wish to use. 4) Borealis - this is especially significant with the CSU-W. On a CSU-X, Borealis will approximately double the excitation power. On a CSU-W, it will approximately triple it! In both cases, the illumination will be considerably more homogeneous too. Thus, a Borealis CSU-W is almost equivalent in terms of power density to the standard CSU-X. Hope this is of some use!
