Does anyone know of a good introductory or review article introducing fluorescence properties? Excitation, quantum yield, photo-bleadching and so on?

Sincerely,

Claire

Re: Reference

Have you looked at the microscopy web site?  http: // micro.magnet.fsu.edu / primer / techniques / fluorescence / fluorhome.html

Claire,

I enjoyed reading this one:

Fluorescence microscopy. Lichtman JW, Conchello JA.
Nat Methods. 2005 Dec;2(12):910-9. Review.PMID: 16299476

best regards,

Re: Reference

I too would recommend the Lichtman paper. I'm also a big fan of David Wolf's chapter on fluorescence in the book Digital Microscopy (3rd) edition. If your university has access to Elsevier Science Direct, you should be able to download this chapter:

http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=ArticleURL&_udi=B7CV1-4NSGRK5-5&_user=10&_coverDate=12%2F31%2F2007&_rdoc=5&_fmt=high&_orig=browse&_srch=doc-info%28%23toc%2318065%232007%23999189999%23656042%23FLA%23display%23Volume%29&_cdi=18065&_sort=d&_docanchor=&_ct=32&_acct=C000050221&_version=1&_urlVersion=0&_userid=10&md5=c90c0f716af60004e9be97313cf2c6bf

And in the newer book by Clegg and Periasamy, FLIM Microscopy in Biology and Medicine, there is an excellent introductory chapter on fluorescence concepts as they relate to microscopy. This chapter also does a really good job of explaining the fluorescence lifetime and how this can be used for imaging.
