To join, leave or search the confocal microscopy listserv, go to: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A0=confocalmicroscopy ***** Laboratorio Nacional de Microscopía Avanzada (LNMA) (National Laboratory for Advanced Microscopy) Cuernavaca, México Position available: Associate Researcher A (Full time, tenure track) The LNMA (www.lnma.unam.mx) is a new, purpose-built facility based at the Instituto de Biotecnología (Biotechnology Institute), part of the Morelos Campus of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México or UNAM (National Autonomous University of Mexico). It was founded as a joint initiative between UNAM and the national funding council, Conacyt. Its purpose is to provide advanced microscopy services to the scientific community in Mexico and Latin America in all sectors (academic, clinical and industrial) based on an open- access core facility model. It is the only such centre in Mexico, and one of the only purpose-built microscopy facilities in Latin America. This is a full-time permanent position available for immediate start. The post is provided by UNAM and comes with a full university pay-and-benefits package, including medical and life insurance. The successful applicant will be expected to join a small but dedicated team working to provide the highest-class of microscopy service available in Latin America. Profile of successful applicant: Essential: - PhD degree awarded within the previous 5 years - Postdoctoral experience in a microscopy-related discipline - Proven productivity in a microscopy-related discipline - Familiarity with confocal microscopy techniques Desirable: - Experienced in one, several, or all of the following: Non-linear microscopy (coherent or incoherent), FCS, FLIM, superresolution microscopy, TIRFM - Experience of working in a Core Microscopy facility - Image analysis expertise - Proficiency in Spanish While expected to contribute to the service-provision, education programmes, and user-training responsibilities of the LNMA, the primary responsibility for the Research Associate will be to develop an independent research programme that expands and enriches the diversity of microscopy services and protocols available to users of the LNMA. The facility has ample space for future expansion as further equipment purchases are made. Further staff will be added to the facility as positions are made available. The LMNA is situated in the city of Cuernavaca in the state of Morelos, México. Cuernavaca is famous as the City of Eternal Spring and is blessed with an extremely pleasant year-round climate (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuernavaca for more extensive information). The LNMA is within the Insituto de Biotecnología (IBt), part of the National Autonomous University (UNAM). The IBt is one of the top-ranked research institutes in the country, with 40 independent research groups working in such diverse fields as Molecular Medicine, Molecular Microbiology, Developmental Biology, Molecular Physiology, Plant Physiology, Biocatalysis and Cellular Engineering.
