The Keck Center for Cellular Imaging (KCCI) in the Department of Biology at the University of Virginia seeks a Research Scientist to develop advanced microscopy imaging systems to investigate cellular metabolism in cells and live animal.



Potential research projects include development of two-photon in vivo FLIM imaging system to monitor cellular metabolism in live animals. The Research Scientist will carry out their own research project on development of software for real time screening of cellular metabolism, as well as to administrate, maintain, and train graduate and undergraduate students and other investigators on various microscopy systems including confocal, multiphoton, TIRF, FCS, FLIM, FRET, multiwall screening systems and super resolution microscopy. The Research Scientist should have experience in preparing research articles in cellular metabolism studies to publish in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.



The Keck Center for Cellular Imaging (KCCI) at UVA is an internationally known center in advanced microscopy imaging. KCCI is highly interactive with outstanding investigators across grounds including from School of Engineering, Arts & Sciences and School of Medicine; provides an excellent training and teaching for graduate and undergraduate students on various microscopy techniques. Historical strengths of KCCI is development of advanced FRET and FLIM imaging systems, techniques and data analysis which are used to train the national and international scientist's through annual hands training workshop on FRET and FLIM microscopy.



QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of a Ph.D. degree in Engineering or biomedical sciences or a related discipline is required. Qualified candidates must have experience working with various light microscopy techniques, system development, and software for FRET, FLIM, and cellular metabolism data analysis using Python, Java, and PFRET. Experience in super resolution microscopy is a plus. Strong writing and verbal communication skills are also required.
