Emory University Division of Cardiology has a great opportunity for a Research Specialist to provide expertise and support.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
*     Following a training period, the employee will be responsible for the management of mouse colonies and thus needs to be comfortable working with small laboratory animals.
*     This includes assembling breeder cages, weaning pups in a timely manner, taking ear punches for identification and genotyping, as well as performing euthanasia.
*     This work requires meticulous attention to detail, organization, being alert to avoid errors and a responsible character.
*     It is also necessary to maintain records, such as genotyping results, in lab notebooks or computer databases, and to compile data for grant applications, presentations during lab meetings, and publications.
*     In addition, the employee will need to perform general maintenance tasks to support the laboratory.
*     These may include preparation of solutions, sterilization, cleaning of equipment, placing new orders, receiving and organizing supplies, maintaining inventories, filing lab safety compliance documents and additional related tasks, as required.
*     There will be opportunities to learn laboratory procedures, optimize new techniques and perform a variety of life sciences experiments in collaboration with other lab members.
*     The lab currently performs cell biology and mouse physiology experiments.
*     Current techniques include small animal surgery, cell culture, microbiology, molecular biology, conventional PCR and qPCR, electrophoresis, microscopy, western blotting, ELISA, spectrophotometry, etc..
*     Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
*     Bachelor's degree in a scientific field OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
