OMX MICROSCOPE SCIENTIFIC OFFICER - LS/2387/LSW
GRADE 7 (£27,466 - £33,780)

An exciting new role is available in the University of Dundee, College of Life Science's Light Microscopy Facility, Dundee, Scotland, UK. We are seeking an energetic Scientific Officer to administer a new, next generation "OMX" structured illumination/multi-channel live cell imaging system, one of only 7 pre-commercial releases of this new imaging technology, which breaks through the resolution barrier previously imposed on the light microscope (Schermelleh et al. (2008) Science 320:1332).

Educated to PhD level or with appropriate experience, the successful candidate will have a strong interest and understanding in the use of light microscopy for biological research, especially in living cells. Significant experience in the use and configuration of fluorescence microscopes is also necessary and familiarity with a variety of computer systems will be helpful.

Based in the central facility as part of the imaging team and reporting to the facility head and the OMX academic lead, the successful applicant will administer the "OMX" microscope and provide support for users from our own facility as well as from throughout Scotland. This is a unique opportunity to help provide a revolutionary technology to cell and developmental biologists throughout a small country with a world-leading life sciences research portfolio.

The Scottish Universities Life Science Alliance funded appointment will be offered for up to five years starting October 2008 on Grade 7 or as soon thereafter as possible.

Informal inquiries can be made by contacting Jason Swedlow ([hidden email]) or Sam Swift ([hidden email]).  Information about the College of Life Sciences is available at http://www.lifesci.dundee.ac.uk. Information about SULSA is available at http://www.sulsa.ac.uk/

Applicants must send a CV, a brief description of current research interests and the names, email addresses, and phone numbers of three referees to [hidden email] quoting LS/2387/LSW. Alternatively, please send 2 hard copies of your CV and covering letter to Human Resources, College of Life Sciences, MSI/WTB/JBC Complex, University of Dundee, DD1 5EH.
