Position:   Sales Engineer - Catalog Business

Semrock is looking for an ambitious sales person with experience in biotechnology and/or imaging sciences to join our team. This is a unique opportunity for someone with a technical background who prefers to work closely with customers to understand needs, solve problems, and grow business.

This person should be passionate about supporting our customers, and be capable to develop into a key team member in an on-going aggressive corporate growth trajectory.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

*         Quickly become comfortable with our highly technical products, our internal software systems, and our value selling techniques

*         Provide technical sales and applications support for Catalog customers as well as internal team members

*         Proactively identify and nurture order opportunities from existing and new accounts

*         Develop quotes and drawings as necessary

*         Qualify and prioritize new OEM opportunities

*         Gather, organize, and regularly communicate product market information derived from e-mail, telephone and face-to-face interactions with customers (ranging from analysis of customer requirements and competitive products to estimation of market sizes and opportunities)



Qualifications:

*         Proven ability to quickly grasp new technical concepts.

*         Solid understanding of fluorescence imaging and measurement systems (especially digital microscopy); strong knowledge of lasers and optics highly desired

*         Excellent interpersonal skills

*         Ability to work both independently and on a team

*         Strong data analysis, and writing and presentation skills

*         Structured, organized and highly methodical - very process driven

*         Must be goal oriented and have strong time management skills

Education / Experience:

*         Bachelor's degree in a technical or scientific field

*         1-3 years experience in Field Sales, Applications Engineering and/or Inside Sales

*         Optical component or imaging instrumentation industry experience highly desired
Reporting and Location:
This person will be located in our Rochester, NY office, and be available to travel up to 25% of the time.

This positions may require lawful access to ITAR/EAR controlled information and employees in this role will need to meet those requirements. Requirements include US Citizenship or US Permanent Resident.
