Institute of Child Health and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust Developmental Biology Unit Research Assistant Applications are invited for a Research Associate or Senior Research Associate to work at the Institute of Child Health and Great Ormond Street Hospital in our newly expanded confocal microscopy facility and also to support our time-lapse microscopy work. The Institute of Child Health has dedicated facilities for confocal and time-lapse microscopy and also micro-injection. We are in the process of upgrading our current facilities to have a new Zeiss/Leica confocal microscope set up for live imaging, FRET and FRAP. The machines are employed on a multi-user basis for projects ranging from basic studies to identify stem cell populations from a range of tissues, including the central nervous system, the eye, the heart, the kidney and blood to more applied studies developing new treatments for cancer and immunodeficiency by bone marrow transplantation and gene therapy. The appointee will be responsible for operation and maintenance of the machines and will be expected to make an active contribution to the development of new and existing imaging-related projects. He or she will also be responsible for training new users of the instruments. The post would be most suitable for scientists with an interest and training in cell and/or developmental biology. All applicants must have a BSc or equivalent in a relevant subject. Experience of conducting basic research in cell and/or developmental biology is essential and evidence of contributions to publications in peer-reviewed journals is desirable. Training on the operation of the confocal equipment will be provided to less experienced candidates, if necessary. For applicants to be appointed to a more senior level (Grade 8) they must have a PhD or an equivalent qualification, or extensive experience in confocal imaging. Applicants are strongly advised to consult the job description before submitting an application for this post. http://www.ich.ucl.ac.uk/ich/humanresources/jobvacancy_00759 For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Dr Patrizia Ferretti on 020 7829 8894 or at [hidden email].
