Senior Research Scientist / Habilitation Position in Biophotonics at the University of Freiburg (Germany)

(See also: https://www.uni-freiburg.de/verwaltung/stellenboerse/00001028)

This Habilitation position (Akadem. Rätin/Rat auf Zeit; similar to Junior Group Leader) will be filled with a researcher who has extensive experience in Biophotonics. The position is associated with the laboratory of Professor Lillemeier in the Institute of Biology III at the Albert-Ludwigs-University in Freiburg (Germany). Our group is interested in the regulation of lymphocyte activity and function during immune responses. Current research efforts are focused on the activating T cell receptor (TCR) and inhibitory PD1 pathways in T cells. We apply multidisciplinary approaches that combine cutting-edge fluorescence microscopy with biophysics, biochemistry and molecular biology to elucidate how protein conformations, modifications and assembly control signal transduction and thereby T cell activity. Newly identified molecular mechanisms are characterized and targeted in vivo, specifically in mice, to modulate anti-tumor responses and autoimmunity. Our goal is to determine the mechanisms potential as future drug targets for immunotherapies.

The advertised position is initially limited to three years with the possibility of renewal up to a total of six years. This position will become available in July 2020. This appointment requires to coordinate existing and initiate independent projects within the areas of interest of the laboratory. The successful applicant will be (i) supervising postdoctoral researcher and graduate students, (ii) teaching Bachelor and Master students in the biology program, and (iii) applying for research grants.

We encourage applicants from different areas of immunology, biology, physics and engineering with a very strong background in biophotonics, specifically single molecule fluorescent microscopy. The selected candidate will manage projects that utilize cutting-edge fluorescence microscopy to investigate T cell biology and develop novel imaging approaches.

This position requires a qualified Ph.D. or doctorate, several years of postdoctoral experience in academic research and publications in peer-reviewed journals. The candidate has to perform teaching duties of four course hours (4 LVS). Civil service requirements must be fulfilled. The possibility of further qualification is given. The salary will be determined in accordance with A13.

We are particularly pleased to receive applications from women for the position advertised here.

To Apply:
Please include a letter of motivation, a description of research accomplishments and future research interests (max. 3 pages), CV with publication list and 3+ contact details for referees in a single pdf file. Cite reference number 00001028 and send your application by 15. June 2020 in electronic or written form to:
