We've developed a resource usage tracking program ("Resource Tracker") that
pops up during user logon and locks the mouse to a tracking form such that
the user cannot access other programs. The user must fill in predefined
fields such as name, department, principle investigator and also requires
that the user enter an account number that is validated against a database
(database configured by core/equipment manager).
Once all the data is validated the user is allowed to star-tup acquisition
software. When the user exits the acquisition software the time of usage as
well as previously filled in fields are sent to a local excel logsheet and
the user is automatically logged off. The software runs on Windows
98/NT/2000/XP. The software is currently being used on many PC's attached
to wide-field scopes, confocal scopes, and Biorad iCyclers, etc. at
Cleveland Clinic's Lerner Research Institute
Finally we have a database manager program that gathers all locally saved
logsheets (over a network) and compiles them into one for monthly or
quarterly accounting. A few years ago, we posted about this program to
gauge demand. The response was overwhelmingly positive. So, we're happy to
say the program is ready for prime-time.
