To join, leave or search the confocal microscopy listserv, go to: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A0=confocalmicroscopy ***** Does anyone know of a commercial (or other) source for a microscope slide with various diffraction grating patterns? I want to use this for teaching purposes (demonstrate diffraction in the back focal plane), and ideally the slide would have multiple patterns (spacings from about 0.5 um to 5 um, various orientations, squares, etc..). Basically, I am looking for a slide as was used in the Abbe diffraction kit. All pointers will be appreciated! Thanks for your help, Nico |

Maintaining alignment while mounting on a slide is a challenge. To join, leave or search the confocal microscopy listserv, go to: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A0=confocalmicroscopy ***** We have used those toy glasses that create spectra when you look through them. In fact, they are grating replicas, --different patterns give, of course, different results. We've also used hemocytometers and stage micrometer slides. One more interesting source are the special gratings used in "Chroma Depth" 3D system. These last are gratings that shift the spectrum either to the left or the right, depending on the eye. As a result, reds are moved forward, and blues to the rear. This is great for landscapes. The bfp images from these gratings show spots on one side or the other of the primary. One more thought. A standard EM standardization is a grating replica mounted on an em grid. You might see if someone like Pella can sell you either fragments for you to mount, or even a larger sheet.
