Hi All,

Posting for a colleague;

*SENIOR RESEARCH SPECIALIST -OPTICAL INSTRUMENTATION FOR BRAIN CIRCUIT
ANALYSIS *

*Overview *

The Princeton Neuroscience Institute has a Senior Research Specialist
position available for the Circuits of coGnitive Systems collaboration (
braincogs.org). This project seeks to understand how multiple brain regions
work together to carry out cognitive processing using mice as a model
system for mammalian brain function. Our project, funded by the NIH BRAIN
initiative, is a collaboration between the research groups of Carlos Brody,
Mark Goldman (UC Davis), Jonathan Pillow, Sebastian Seung, David Tank, Sam
Wang, and Ilana Witten.

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide technical support
for the custom optical and behavioral instrumentation used within the
multiple laboratories in our project. These systems will be used for large
scale optical recording and optogenetic perturbation studies on the
mechanisms of working memory and decision-making. After proper training,
the successful candidate will also be expected to assist other researchers
with the usage of several commercial instruments (confocal microscope,
light sheet microscopes, slide scanner).

Work will be performed in conjunction with the recently established Bezos
Center for Neural Circuit Dynamics. The successful candidate will work with
Bezos Center management and faculty to develop and support the imaging
tools and peripheral instrumentation.

This is initially a one-year position with the possibility of renewal,
based on satisfactory funding and performance. A commitment of at least two
years is preferred.

The specific duties include the implementation, and maintenance of:

•                Custom two-photon, and three-photon, microscopes for
cellular resolution calcium imaging of neural populations

•                Virtual reality systems for rodents.

•                Custom Wide field fluorescence microscopes for macroscopic
imaging of neural dynamics across brain regions.

•                State of the art systems for combined imaging and
optogenetic perturbation at cellular resolution.

Other duties will require to:

•                Perform recurrent quality control checks on all
microscopes. Keep accurate, legible records to monitor instrument
performance. In concert with the Imaging Director, complete scheduled and
unscheduled system maintenance as needed.

•                Perform routine laboratory duties including ordering of
lab supplies, general lab upkeep, routine maintenance of laboratory
equipment. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.

*Qualifications *

A bachelor's degree in a science or engineering field is required. A
master's or PhD degree is preferred. Previous experience in optics and/or
imaging is required. Experience in optical design, mechanical design,
instrumentation, and electronics are a plus.

Applicants should apply at *https://careers.princeton.edu/
<https://careers.princeton.edu/> *and search for *requisition # 2019-10707 *and
include a cover letter stating background and professional interests, a CV,
and a list of at least two potential referees.

This position is subject to the University's background check policy
