Storing fixed cells until analysis

Dear group,

I have to fix bacterial cells (M. tuberculosis) to poly - l - lysine slides. I normally use 4 %
v/v formaldehyde in 1 x PBS for up to 30 min as it causes sufficient death of my cells and
thus I can remove them from the lab. No dehydration etc is done after, except for rinsing
with PBS, dH2O and drying.

My question is the following; how long can I store my slides with fixed cells until labeling
and analysis, without causing significant changes to cell morphology or development of
possible artifacts.

What would be the best way to store them? Slide box at -20?

Thanks very much,

Shane
