Hi All,

This might be a bit of a blast from the past, but I'm curious how often others change/changed their Sutter DG4 lamps (Ceremax PE175BF).

The recommended end of life on the spec sheet is 1000 hr, which is define by the lamp reaching 50% of peak brightness.  I inherited a system that had been running for 3000+ hours with no issue.  Does the lamp ever actually cut out or are these lamps invincible?

From the little I have found on the lifespan of these lamps. It appears to have a constant decline in intensity from the first ignition until it plateaus at 50% brightness for up to 7000+ hours.  http://www.excelitas.com/Downloads/Cermax_Eng_Guide.pdf

Very interested in the experience/advice that others have had and if they follow the recommended life time or another regime.

Note: this lamp is used for long term live cell system where high intensity is not of high importance, more lamp life length and stability.

Thanks
Brenton

Hi,

I took a standardized image every two weeks. For this I used a bead slides I had made fresh and took 3 fields of at least five beads each and signal averaged to get the total fluorescence of one bead. I would graph this and post the graph on the wall. The lamps have a burn-in time of 10 or so hours, then they would settle down and stay consistent for several months, then start to tail off. I changed lamps when the standard signal was down by 30%. I wish I could tell you how many hours this was but it has been awhile and I can't located the old graphs.
