Successful applicants are expected to focus towards developing novel diagnostic and theranostic sensing and imaging methods applied to oncology. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Technical University of Munich (TUM) is a top ranking University in Germany committed to research ex-cellence, interdisciplinary education and the promotion of entrepreneurship. TUM is now taking a bold step in establishing TranslaTUM, a central research institute committed to changing the landscape in finding solutions for cancer by integrating principles of bioengineering and biology toward applications in medicine. Through funding of the Federal and Bavarian Government, TranslaTUM will operate in a new modern research building placed on the campus of the School of Medicine and the University Hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar, expected to be completed by the end of 2016. The building brings together bioengineers, biologists, physicists, chemists and medical doctors that will combine skill and effort to develop cutting-edge technologies for the benefit of patients. TranslaTUM is pleased to establish the prestigious Bioengineering Fellowship. Two fellowships will be awarded each year, one for carrying out a doctoral thesis (Ph.D) and one at the post-doctoral level to students with top academic performance. Successful applicants will be exposed to a highly interdisciplinary and cutting edge environment of modern bioengineering and biology research with focus towards developing novel diagnostic and theranostic sensing and imaging methods applied to oncology. The Fellowship supports additional training and coaching toward an academic, entrepreneurial or industrial career, as chosen by the Fellow. Graduating fellows will be honored by the Technical University of Munich and become part of a TranslaTUM Fellows network, aiming to promote advanced engineering principles into oncology solutions in academia and in-dustry. Applicants for the TranslaTUM Bioengineering Fellowship should be able to demonstrate a stellar academic track record, high motivation, scientific curiosity and initiative, and commitment to scientific excellence and the integration of engineering and biology principles. Fellowships will be awarded to applicants with a Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science and Applied Sciences background or a biology, biotechnology and medicine background and strong interest to learn and employ advanced technology and engineering principles in cancer research. Our offer: The fellowship offers an exciting and challenging international research environment vested in multi-disciplinary principles with the opportunity to actively contribute in developing an emerging hot spot in interdisciplinary re-search and clinical translation. It is administered by Prof. Ntziachristos’ Chair for Biological Imaging at TUM, who has been awarded with a Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz prize and two ERC awards. We support career development, continuing education and teaching and training opportunities. Remuneration is in line with the current public collective wage agreement of the State of Bavaria (TV-L) and will be commensurate with work experience and seniority. The fellowship provides support for 3 years. TranslaTUM is located in one of the most attractive and innovative major cities in Germany. Munich is a place of scientific excellence and interaction, hosting several of Germany’s top universities and research institutions in addition to TUM (e.g. Helmholtz Zentrum München, LMU, Max Planck institutes). Situated at the foothills of the Alps, Munich is, furthermore, famous for its high quality of life. As an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer, TUM explicitly encourages applications from women as well as from all others who would bring additional diversity dimensions to the university’s research and teaching strategies. Preference will be given to disabled candidates with essentially the same qualifications. The deadline for a full application is 15.09.2016. The application consists of a letter of motivation and complete CV including publications, references, and transcript of study records in a single pdf file and can be in English or German (English preferred). Please submit your application to Ms. Martina Riedl, indicating "TranslaTUM Bioengineering Fellowship 2016” and either “PhD” or “postdoc” in the subject line. email: [hidden email] tel.: +49 89 4140 7211 Technical University of Munich (TUM) Chair for Biological Imaging (CBI) Ismaningerstr. 22 81675 München, Germany Web page: http://www.tum.de/en/research/researchcenters/translatum ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
