The University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Department of Pathology is searching
for an Imaging Specialist (Junior, Assistant or Associate Level) in The Biological Imaging
Development Center (BIDC). Salary and appointment rank will be commensurate with the
applicants’ experience and training. This position is available immediately.

The Biological Imaging Development Center (pathology.ucsf.edu/BIDC) at UCSF seeks an
imaging specialist to support daily operations and continue to advance current
technologies. The specialist will work with the director to develop image acquisition,
automation, and analysis software, as well as assist in the maintenance, repair, and
operation of microscopes. This position requires direct interaction with researchers
including training, assisting, and troubleshooting as needed. This individual will work
under the direct supervision of the director and will also receive mentoring and direct
guidance from the principal investigator in order to advance their career in academic
research. Additional responsibilities include bookkeeping, ordering, maintaining stocks of
necessary supplies, and performing other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree in biological or computer sciences, engineering or a related field with
at least 6 months’ experience in programming (ie: MATLAB, Java, C++), as well as the
ability and willingness to learn to use and teach others to use complex scientific
equipment is required.

Software development experience with an emphasis on system automation and image
analysis is preferred. Experience in fluorescence microscopy, sample preparation, as well
as training in optics and biology are beneficial but training will be provided.
