Confocal and Laser Capture Technical Director

School of Medicine and Dentistry

Overview:

The University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) Conventional and Confocal Microscopy Resource (CCMR) is a core facility that provides advanced light microscopy support and training to UR researchers.  The Director will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the CCMR, provide training to new and advanced users, and develop collaborations with UR researchers to expand and extend the technical capabilities of the instruments under the CCMR.   The Director will be expected to be involved in protocol development for quantitative studies, including the use of various software analytic tools that can be applied to collected data.  The Director will be expected to present at local group meetings and poster sessions (as invited), and will receive support to attend national meetings to promote the CCMR while advancing  their own knowledge of advanced light microscopy and image analysis, including the advantages and disadvantages of various systems for specific applications, and to keep abreast of new analytic software analyses. 


As Technical Director of the facility, the successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day operation of the Confocal and Laser Capture Resource to support the research needs of the UR investigators.  This includes:


·       Design and optimization of experiments in partnership with individual users

·       Implementation of training to investigators on the instruments

·       Development of new and novel assays

·       Grant writing to acquire new and complementary technology

·       Collaborative opportunities for grant writing and publications with individual users

·       Attendance and presention at regional and national meetings

·       Establishing collaborations with other regional facilities


Requirements:

Doctoral degree with demonstrated experience in confocal microscopy and image analysis.  Preferred qualifications – Ph.D. with a minimum of 2-4 years using laser confocal microscopy as a central part of research projects. Demonstrated experience in designing and executing confocal microscopy experiments. Expertise in histology, cell biology, developmental biology or similar fields is desirable.
