If you are attending the upcoming ASCB meeting in San Diego, December 6 - 9 (
http://www.ascb.org/meetings/), please come see the Micro-Manager demonstration in Booth 602 in the Exhibition space.
Micro-Manager (
http://micro-manager.org) is an open source software package for microscope image acquisition. It controls a large number of microscopes (from Leica, Nikon, Olympus and Zeiss), scientific grade cameras, and peripherals and lets you take snapshots, time-lapses, z-stacks, and multi-channel images. It runs as an ImageJ plugin and works under Windows, Mac and Linux. Micro-Manager is being developed at Ron Vale's lab at UCSF supported by a grant from the NIH.
We will be demonstrating the new Micro-Manager Surveyor plugin that lets you operate the microscope without looking through the eyepieces. It offers a Google Maps-like interface by which you can survey and navigate your slide with a touch screen. This plugin can greatly simplify finding and keeping track of interesting cells in a population.
Of course, our main goal is to meet you, hear about your experiences with Micro-Manager, your wishes for future development and everything else you would like to tell us. We also hope to give you personal hands-on training in the use of Micro-Manager.
Hope to see you there!
Best,
Nico Stuurman
