Or whether there is a patch for it? Not heard anything in the UK, and google only returns the last discussion on here about it. Would be nice to have security updates installed... Glyn. I ran updates yesterday on one LSM880. I had backed up before, created a restore point, and I had a Zeiss service guy scheduled to come for some work on that microscope in the afternoon. I ran windows update, one of them failed at installing. But the system is running as it should. Zeiss also created a pdf, showing how to put these updates on a blacklist so that they are not installed. Good luck. We have updated our Windows 7 with Feb updates - these replace the KBxxxx problem updates and allow Zen black to operate confocal systems properly on Zeiss 710/780 and 880 systems along with offline Zen licenses. Our computers are connected to the university network now and seem to be working fine. Feel free to contact me offline if you'd like me to send the documentation that Zen sent. About 2.5 years ago our computer for Zeiss 710 was unintentionally, automatically updated from Win 7 to Win 10 when graduate students were using it. At that time the computer was connected to internet. We didn't know about the Win 10 incompatibility issue, and we continued to run the instrument for a while after the update. On the surface there seemed no problem running it with Win 10. But after a couples of months the HDD corrupted and we had to call service to get it repaired. The serviceman basically wiped off the HDD and reinstalled Win 7 and Zen and tested the instrument. He told us that Zeiss 710 shouldn't be run with Win 10. Since then we were so afraid of the automatic updates that we decided to disable all kinds of automatic updates and disconnect the computer from internet, and use the instrument completely offline. So did they find a fix for the Win 10 incompatibility issue? I personally would still avoid Win 10 update. At this moment there is no need for updating the computer to Win 10 as far as we are concerned. Running an instrument offline, without making a change from the initial install, is the safest... But that makes moving data via network to servers etc difficult and we have tried to keep our systems connected to the univ network to allow data transfer that way. To clarify, we have not done anything more than allow Windows security updates of Win 7 for Feb 2019 happen to fix the problem of the Jan 2019 security update. I only performed this after I received information from Zeiss about this particular issue. During January and some of Feb, we kept all our Zeiss systems disconnected from the network. Our 510, 710 and 780, and 880 installed in 2016, are running on Windows 7. We have been told we will be kicked off the univ network in Jan 2020 when Win 7 is no longer supported. (we paid to update several systems to Win 7 from Win XP in the last year, one was Zeiss another from a diffcompany) Zeiss and Leica are delivering new systems on Win 10 (finally). I have asked Zeiss about whether they are working on Win 10 compatibility for older models in the field that are currently running with WIn 7. They say they are aware and are working on it. My major concern is our Zeiss lighsheet Z.1 that would be blocked from our univ network in 2020 once Win7 support is over, since this produces very large files that really only are practical to move via network connections (at least in a core facility situation). As of now, my understanding is that Zeiss systems delivered with Win 7 need to be run on Win 7. But info from my service rep is that Zeiss is working on figuring out the transition to Win 10 for systems currently running on Win 7. One of the connections goes to your local network (public) and one of the others directly to the light sheet computer (private network). I used such a solution in the past to transfer data from an XP system to the NAS via the private network. The data are then accessible from other computers via the public connection. Such a solution is probably cheaper than an upgrade of the microscope computer, starting at less than €1000 (including disk). With a lot of long cables and a router you essentially could put an infinite number of computers in your private network. But depending on the spatial situation, one NAS for each microscope in need might be easier to install. You do lose the possibility of remote support on the microscope and the possibility to automatically transfer usage data for billing to a server (and obviously browsing the internet).
