How does it compare with the hardware auto-focus from other vendors? I have used PFS from Nikon and believe that PFS is the gold standard in hardware auto-focus.The local vendors says "Definite Focus.2 is an option. The system works fine even without it - software auto focus is enough". Is it true? Given the fact that one usually images overnight with live cell microscope, "Cell Observer 7 is stable and robust without hardware auto-focus" is unbelievable! Please clarify. We use it routinely to image fixed samples. If the sample is over 3 fields of view, it is likely that some refocussing will be needed. This is especially true for multiwell plates and 35 mm dishes which unfortunately are never flat. Software autofocus bleaches your sample. It is useful in situations where HW autofocus cannot be used. The advantage is instantaneous autofocus for live specimens. Some companies also offer continuous autofocus.. It's worth testing live specimen without any interval in both systems and decide.
