Hi all,

I'm trying to utilise the trigger interface on an old Zeiss LSM510. Specifically, there are 8 asynchronous output lines which the manual labels as "Relative scan position". I take this to mean that it's possible to get a readout from the Zeiss of the position of the scanning mirrors. Does anyone have any experience with this interface? Have tried looking at the output from these lines using an oscope but they don't appear to output anything either while scanning or when the mirrors are stationary.

The pages in the zeiss manual referring to this trigger interface are here:

Entirely possible i've misinterpreted the function of these lines, but if anyone had any direct experience with this any advice would be really appreciated

Kind regards,
Allen

Hi Allen,

not sure about LSM 510 (I'm more used to LSM 780 and 880), but I always
thought the asynchronous outputs can be manipulated through a macro, or
they can be set up to produce a pulse during e.g. photobleaching (and other
events during a time series scan).

To figure out the current "pixel" position within a frame, you need to look
at the Pixel Clock, sync out line and sync out frame signals. Those are
synchronous with the scanning process, and it's easy to guess what they
look like - a pulse every pixel, line and frame, respectively. From these
sync signals you can reconstruct the exact scan position.

Best, zdenek
