Zeiss510--error log: Object PH1, Time out

Hello Listers,

A error message pops up this morning in our Zeiss 510Meta: "Object PH1 time out". It seems it is associated with ChS channel (Meta detector) since ChS is not working.

Does anyone out there have any idea on it? Any suggestion to fix it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Guosheng

PH1 refers to pinhole 1, the pinhole on front of the META detector. The error message most likely indicates that the software lost contact with the pinhole. Typically, you can fis this by quitting the software and restarting it. If that doesn't work, quit software, shut down and restart system, and restart software. Zeiss softwasre is a bit picky, and you may need to wait a little after you power ON the system and before you start the LSM software to allow all devices to initiate properly. If you still see problems after that, you may need a service visit.

Julio.

Re: Zeiss510--error log: Object PH1, Time out

Try Julio's approach 2-3 times, and if that doesn't work, you can try using CANCheck (CANCHK), which is in the AIM folder or in the Tools Folder within AIM or in the CANCHK folder within AIM, depending on the version of software you have.  Depending on the version of CANCHK, there are ways to reset the firmware.  If the below protocol does not work for you, the Zeiss support can walk you through it, too, or give me a call and let me know which version you have and I can walk you through the reset process.  Very rarely, it could be that the pinhole is broken or lost power or something, and then you'll need a service call, but it is good to try this first.

Best,
 Holly

Re: Zeiss510--error log: Object PH1, Time out

Guosheng,

as already stated, it could be a timing problem. So maybe the hardware
was not ready yet while starting the software. If it appears more often
or always, there might be three reasons - as far as I know.

a) The X-Y motor of the pinhole is getting old and takes longer to move
the pinhole into its initial position. After a certain time, a sensor
checks if the pinhole arrived at this position. So the pinhole might
arrive after the sensor readout. In this case, the service might
exchange the drive.

b) The sensor which checks the position has a defect. Can be exchanged
as well.

c) The saved position for the pinhole is too far away from the central
one, and it takes too long to move the pinhole there. You can check the
initial position in the AIM software. Initiate it, and go directly to
Maintain > Pinhole. Have a look at the X-Y values, are the far away from
0? If yes, and the pinhole is still nicely adjusted in terms of
Z-resolution, a service engineer can reset the physical position of the
pinhole in the scan-head.

In the end it could be a combination of problems. So if the problem
persists, contact your service.

Good luck,
Michael

Re: Zeiss510--error log: Object PH1, Time out

Hey Guosheng,

after all, can you name the reason for the error message? Or did it just
disappear?

cheers,
Michael

Re: Zeiss510--error log: Object PH1, Time out

Hi Michael,
The machine was back to normal (no warning message anymore) when I restarted it, so I am not sure if it was due to sluggish pinhole motor or other communication problem. The Ph1 settings were X=-40um, Y=4um and Z=0mm, and I'm not sure if this was the reason and if I should set to X,Y to zero.
Cheers,
Guosheng
