The NICis one of only three such advanced facilities in the USA. The NIC is a core imaging facility, housing the latest in imaging instruments including super-resolution, confocal, TIRF and multiphoton microscopes. The center is supported by the Feinberg School of Medicine, the Department of Cell & Molecular Biology, the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Nikon Instruments, Inc. The mission of the NIC is to provide access to state-of-the-art imaging equipment to researchers at Northwestern University and neighboring institutions and to serve as an educational hub for the mid-west region by providing training courses and symposia in basic and advanced microscopy. The Manager will be responsible for the upkeep of current instrumentation and for providing training and support to users. The Manager will also be expected to develop and teach courses in basic and advanced light microscopy techniques and their applications to cutting edge biomedical research. In addition the Manager will organize symposia on the latest microscopy techniques and their applications. He/she will also establish and maintain close communications with Nikon Instruments and other NIC directors worldwide to operate the Center at the highest level of excellence. Other activities include the evaluation and provision of feedback on new/prototype Nikon equipment to Nikon Instruments and generating monthly status reports. The Manager will be expected to write grants to help the institute with equipment purchases and to stay knowledgeable regarding the latest developments in imaging technologies and applications. Applicants must have at least a PhD degree in a relevant discipline. Candidates should have extensive personal experience optimizing and using cutting-edge imaging modalities in biomedical research. Preference will be given to candidates with graduate and postdoctoral experience in microscopy, image analysis and/or designing optical systems. Experience with grant writing, teaching and using Nikon instruments and software are desirable. Rank and salary are commensurate with experience.
