positive control for apoptosis

Dear all--

Can anyone suggest a good tissue to use as a positive control for
apoptosis?  We've considered liver and testes but as nearly as I can
find from the literature, the proportion of apoptotic cells in those
organs in naive rats is pretty small.  Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Re: positive control for apoptosis

Untreated thymus is a great tissue.

Do you have access to lactating rats? I've used post-lactation rat mammary glands. I believe the time period was 2-10 days post-lactation, but am not positive. Send me a personal message if you want me to look up the exact range for harvesting.

We routinely use 2 - 4 day post-lactation mammary glands for our apoptosis positive controls.

If you are doing tunel you can make your own by treating the sections
with DNase prior to staining......otherwise I might try to find a
decent tumour sample, with a little necrosis.

Happy Friday!
