problems with our FV300 Olympus confocal microscope

Search the CONFOCAL archive at
http://listserv.acsu.buffalo.edu/cgi-bin/wa?S1=confocal

We have a problem with our FV300 Olympus confocal microscope, that's run
by Flouview ver. 3.2 under Windows NT.

One of the two Olympus boards in the computer apparently causes  NT to
freeze during the boot-up (nothing happens after pressing ctrl alt del).
When the boards are taken out, the computer boots normally.

We would appreciate very much hearing from users who had similar
problems and were able to solve them.

In the same context: Has anyone managed to run Flouview ver. 3.2 on a
new computer: either under NT or XP. Olympus tells us that the software
does not run under XP (and would like to sell us an upgrade for a few
1000 pounds) and our IT department tells us that new computers can not
run NT (no drivers for essential components such as the motherboard).

Again, we would appreciate very much any suggestions you might have.

many thanks

Benedikt

Re: problems with our FV300 Olympus confocal microscope

Search the CONFOCAL archive at http://listserv.acsu.buffalo.edu/cgi-bin/wa?S1=confocal Have you tried putting the boards into different slots?  Otherwise there might be an IRQ resource routing error.  You can tweak this in the system BIOS if you have access to it.  Just take careful note of existing settings so you can revert to the originals!
IRQ= interrupt request; computer has a limited number of these channels and they are used for hardware and peripherals.  It's possible to lock up a system if two boards are trying to use the same IRQ.
The other possibility is your power supply or possibly a fault in the ground plane.  Plugging the board in would make the computer have a power glitch in this case.
