The pumps are the key.  Syringe pumps or the like are the most reliable, but
provide limited volume.  They are less likely to have air bubbles though.
Don't forget to account for the volume of your delivery tubing when you are
distributing solutions to your sample!
I have had some success with mini gear pumps for delivering about 2ml/min of
solution.  You have to prime the pump first and run it a bit to make sure
any air is out of the system first though.  Peristaltic pumps have similar
issues; run them a bit first to make sure any air is out of the lines.
