Hi Julio,
I am one of the people keeping the iCys busy quite a bit (no commercial interest) for already more than two years.
The machine is reliable (did not have problems after more than 4000 runs) and could get lots of quantitation (of the type you get from a FACS) out of slides with cells or tissue sections, as well as from dishes and plates. It is based on an IX71 with lenses ranging from 4x to 60x and three lasers (405, 488 and 633). Image quality is not bad, but when I need a picture for a paper, use our old upright BX50. The iCys is a cytometer anyhow ...
The software is working fine (once you get familiar with!). The Compucyte guys are very helpful and start with a week of training at their place.
Will be happy to chat about anytime
All the best
Yours
Ivan

Hi Julio, yes we changed our site. Thanks for pointing it out I had forgotten about my sig link.

The iCys is not used that much here at COH. I think that people were initially optimistic, but have failed to use it much.

-Pretty easy to use, gives data much like FACS (I think this machine is more for FACS types). Out system is controlled by our Flow Core.

- Image quality is ok. Olympus based (think IX71). Ours is not confocal.

-Software is decent and user friendly once you figure it out (is that always the case?).

We just purchased the Molecular Dynamics HCS instrument after much demonstration. MD has; good price, good software analysis, robotic adaptation, and our sales/tech person was very knowledgeable.

For more on the HCS instrument I can refer you to our manager of the HCS core.

For more on the iCys I can refer you to the tech that operates it daily.

Cheers,

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the tip. I actually got contacted by someone from Compucyte regarding the slide holder.

As a matter of fact, I am also shopping for an HCS instrument. Since you have an iCys, could I ask (without taking too much of your time) for your opinion on the instrument, such as its main uses (live, fixed, plates, slides), and its main strengths and weaknesses (ease of use, image quality, software...). That might help narrow down my options.

By the way,  your web link does not seem to be valid any longer. Here is how I got to the City Of Hope Imaging web site:

and

Best wishes,

julio.

Hi Julio, we have an insert that looks just like this on an iCys Compucyte Cytometer; www.compucyte.com/icys.htm.

It is “Olympus sized” so I am not sure about adapting to a Zeiss. Cheers,
