Thank you for the many replies.

Our sales rep just stopped in and the email below explains the problem.

People in the lab were using the #1 coverslip bottom wells and because of an issue on the TIRF microscope and my formal microscopy training, I insisted we switch to 1.5 coverslips.  We did not realize that the entire design was different.

According to the sales rep, both the old design as #1 and the new design as #1.5 are available.  So I'm going to recommend that for normal confocal etc. people use the #1 chambers even though the optics aren't perfect.  And we will try snipping off or otherwise removing the tabs on the newer models.

Thanks again!

Regards,

Michael

 Hi Michael,
The difference is between the Labtek and the Labtek II version of the chambered coverglass. The first one has the no. 1 and the second has the no
1.5 coverglass bottom.  As far as I know both models are still available (at least over here..).  Whenever we us the II version, we simply cut off the tab with an ordinary wire-shear.

Best regards

Els

Hi.

For many years we used Nunc Lab-Tek chambered coverglasses. They were great.

However, they recently began shipping a different design with the same product number. The chambers no longer fit in our microscope stages inserts.
Also, the volume changed.
see http://www.flickr.com/photos/mcammer/sets/72157632984171809/

While we can adjust to the volume change, the plastic tab at the end of the chamber is a big problem.

I thought of having people cut the tab off before doing experiments, but this would produce a lot of plastic dust (and we'd have to buy a suitable saw or dremel).

Does anybody know of an alternative manufacturer or if the old style chambers are still available from somewhere?

Thanks!

Michael
