Department of Biosciences, University of Oslo
Researcher and Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Cell Biology/ Cellular
Immunology/Intracellular Imaging
http://uio.easycruit.com/vacancy/1359027/96323?iso=noThe postdoc position and the researcher position are available at the Department
of Biosciences, University of Oslo Norway and funded by the Norwegian Research
Council and the Norwegian Cancer Society. Project "The intracellular pathway for
MHC Class II antigen presentation". The researcher and the postdoc will work in
the group of prof. Oddmund Bakke at the Department of Biosciences, University of
Oslo and part time at NKI, the Dutch Cancer Institute in Amsterdam.
The positions are for two years, but a one-year prolongation is possible. Within the
framework of the position duties may be assigned. In regards to the post doctoral
position, no one can be appointed for more than one fixed-term period at the same
institution.
Job Description
The project focuses primarily on unraveling the function of the endocytic pathway
toward antigen loading using biophysical techniques, molecular biological
techniques, biochemistry, imaging (e.g. live imaging) and
molecular/imaging/biochemical screens in cell culture systems and cells from
knock out/knock in mice. The project will focus on unraveling the pathway towards
MHC II antigen loading, in particular for the molecules that associate with the
transport to and from this compartment in immune cells, both in cell lines and in
human dendritic cells (See e.g. Neefjes et al., 2011, Nature immunology and
publications by the supervisors (Medline, in particular Oddmund Bakke and
Jacques Neefjes). We also work, together with a clinical group, and we have
patented a vaccine for immunotherapy by improving loading of the MHC molecules,
both MHC class I and class II. The Bakke group is a member of a CoE, Centre for
Immune Regulation and prof Oddmund Bakke is also the head of the National
imaging platform NorMIC Oslo, with a wide range of imaging equipment, including
equipment at the Oslo University hospital, a node headed by prof Harald Stenmark.
The work will include collaboration with national and international groups in
particular Prof. Jacques Neefjes at the Dutch Cancer Centre, NKI in Amsterdam and
with the Preben Morth Group who is a part of the Centre for Molecular Medicine
Norway, home page.
Qualifications
The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being
a leading research faculty. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in
accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with
respect to academic credentials.
The candidates must have a PhD or other corresponding education equivalent to a
Norwegian doctoral degree in molecular biology, cell biology, biophysics or
biochemistry.
We are seeking highly motivated and skilled researchers with broad and extensive
experience within one or more of the following areas: advanced imaging, molecular
biology, cellular immunology, cell biology, biochemistry, and protein chemistry.
Prior experience with intracellular membrane/protein traffic and library screening
will be considered a strong advantage. One of the positions will preferentially need
extensive experience with advanced cellular imaging and membrane trafficking
whereas one will be more focused towards cell biology/intracellular
membrane/organelle biogenesis and transport and immunological techniques.
The main purpose of post-doctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for
work in top academic positions within their disciplines.
Please also refer to the regulations pertaining to the conditions of employment for
post-doctoral fellowship positions.
A good command of English is required.
Salary:
Position code 1352 for post doctoral research fellow, Pay Grade: 57 65 (NOK
482 800 559 600 per year, depending on qualifications and seniority).
Position code 1109 for researcher, Pay Grade: 57 65 (NOK 482 800 559 600
per year, depending on qualifications and seniority).
The application must include:
Application letter, please indicate on your application letter which position you are
applying for.
CV (summarizing education, positions, pedagogical experience, administrative
experience and other qualifying activity)
Copies of educational certificates, transcript of records and letters of
recommendation
Documentation of English proficiency
A complete list of publications and all academic works that the applicant wishes to
be considered by the evaluation committee
Names and contact details of 2-3 references (name, relation to candidate, e-mail
and telephone number)
Please remember that all documents should be in English or a Scandinavian
