zeiss lsm 510 - stuck lsm/vis/fcs switch

Search the CONFOCAL archive at
http://listserv.acsu.buffalo.edu/cgi-bin/wa?S1=confocal

Help.

We have a zeiss lsm 510 w/axiovert 100.

Unofrtunately we spilled some pbs on the microscope and now one of the pins
which switch between lsm/vis/fcs modes seems to be stuck (perhaps rusted?).
Zeiss is on vacation...

Does anybody have any experience with this?

How hard should I try to push the pin?

Can I open the side panel to assess what the problem is? In that case, how
do I remove the focus wheels?

Best regards

Have you tried some gentle cleaning with Methanol or distilled water?  If this is an electronic pin you are talking about try a bit of Methanol or Isopropyl alcohol (with all power turned off!) to clean it.  Also a white pencil eraser is pretty good for cleaning electrical contacts.
