Dear Confocal list members,
This isn't really confocal related question but hope some people on this list has experience with DPSS 561nm laser. I'm considering to purchase DPSS 561nm laser - 100mW or 150mW for my microscope application. I looked at Coherent, Spectra Physics, CrystaLaser and Cobolt. Since this kind of laser is new to the market, I would like to hear real experience with this laser. If you have experience with this laser, can you share your opinion? Best Regards, Hiro. ======================================= Hiroyuki Hakozaki National Center for Microscopy & Imaging Research University of California San Diego ======================================= |

561 has been around for a while. Just make sure the output mode is
good and the laser is power stabilized (check RMS noise on the output). Are you planing on fiber coupling it or steering the beam with mirrors (freespace)? Hi Craig,
Thank you for your information. As for specification wise, all of them looks fine. I'm planing to use fiber coupling. Hiro. > 561 has been around for a while. Data sheet look good for the Coherent one.

We have a 100mW laser from Cobolt for approximately 1 year now. We use
it on a spinning disk system and it works fine (although its power was never really 100 mW, rather 90-95). Cheers Gabor |

Single-mode fiber coupling tends to clean up the mode output of your
laser as long as it is done correctly (it is a form of spatial filtering). You should have a clean gaussian mode out of the single-mode fiber tip. The next parameter is the power stability of the laser. You need to know the RMS noise in the power output of the laser, particularly the noise at frequencies similar to your image/pixel acquisition rate. A 'decent' laser has RMS noise <5% and will be usable for most applications. A 'good' laser is <1-2%. Unless you are trying photobleaching or the like maximum power is seldom an issue; for most people 100mW is overkill. Dear All,
Thank you for your input about DPSS 561nm laser. I also received private responses from my friends and would like to summarize here. One of my friend have very good experience include support with Coherent 100mW which he has more than one. I also heard good and bad experience with Cobolt. I didn't hear anything about CrystaLaser and Spectra Physics. So no comment about these company. Because of my friend have good experience with Coherent, I will go with Coherent. Thank you again for your feedback. Best Regards, Hiro. > Dear Confocal list members, > This isn't really confocal related question but hope some people on > this list has experience with DPSS 561nm laser. > > I'm considering to purchase DPSS 561nm laser - 100mW or 150mW for my > microscope application.
