http://listserv.acsu.buffalo.edu/cgi-bin/wa?S1=confocal Hi everyone! Here is an emergency. I am doing my data analysis on zeiss LSM 510 while the whole system is runing. I mean all laser are on and I was collecting data. The software was down suddenly. So I quit it and tried to restart it. Then I got the message like "Fail to connect to realtime controller. If the system is running open the door "reset RTC" on the front of the electronics rack. press the "Reset" button and wait 30 seconds. But the problem is I can not find any door or reset button behind it. I called Zeiss, but their system is down too! Is there anyone here can help? |

As far as I can remember two years back when I was still working on a Zeiss system (LSM 5), there is indeed a door just above the floor level on the vertical side of the main controller unit. It should be facing you if you are sitting in front of the computer screen. The reset button is behind it. I never tried to do analysis data while collecting data, and I'm still not...
Hope it'll work. Zoltan On Thu, Jul 17, 2008 at 10:35 PM, Yi Zheng <[hidden email]> wrote: Search the CONFOCAL archive at -- -- Zoltan Cseresnyes Facility manager, Imaging Suite |

I'm not a Zeiss expert but I'd suggest that powering down
the entire system
would have an equivalent effect to pressing any reset
button. Then turn it
on following the normal sequence (which on most confocals
means first
booting the computer, then turning on the
microscope, scanhead and lasers
and finally starting the control software).

http://listserv.acsu.buffalo.edu/cgi-bin/wa?S1=confocal Hi Yi- I have experienced the "Failed to connect to real time controller" problem twice in the past two months on my Zeiss 510 Meta. There is a secondary computer or controller in the large module that contains the lasers and electronics. This secondary computer is connected to the Windows computer by an internet cable. When you start the Windows program, you should see at the bottom right of the monitor on one of the icons a message indicating "Real Time Connection/Speed 1Gbps/Status Connected" The first time I experienced the "Failed to connect to real time controller", the icon on the Windows screen also indicated that the Real Time Connection was Not Connected. That time I could not get the system to work without a service call. The second time, the icon on the Windows screen indicated that the Real Time Connection was still Connected at 1Gbps. If I shut down the system for 30-60 minutes (5 or 10 minutes wouldn't work), then I could get the system back up and working. It was as though there was a heating issue or something. In both cases, the final solution was for Zeiss to replace that secondary computer in the electronics module. The system worked fine after that. Hope this helps- Melinda Melinda Frame, PhD Michigan State University Center for Advanced Microscopy B7 CIPS East Lansing, MI 48824 517-432-2327 [hidden email] Yi Zheng writes: > Search the CONFOCAL archive at > http://listserv.acsu.buffalo.edu/cgi-bin/wa?S1=confocal > > Hi everyone! > > Here is an emergency. > > I am doing my data analysis on zeiss LSM 510 while the whole system is > runing. Hey Folks --
It could be
a heating issue. We at times get the same error on our 510 with
the same fix -- rebooting the real-time controller with the red panic
button behind the hidden door. Sometime it takes a full shutdown and a bit
of waiting before the restart. My Zeiss service tech pointed out a filter
behind the grill next to that hidden door. If it gets clogged the system
can overheat. Easy to do but hard to remember to clean it once in a
while.
Martin's
right -- it's awesome that folks have such ready access to literally a
world of help!
Be peace! Greg.
