Dear all--

I've been contacted by someone at Microscopy Today (
https://www.microscopy.org/microscopytoday.cfm ).  They have a column
that includes gleanings from places like the Microscopy Listserv and
would like also to include interesting postings and responses from the
Confocal List.

I personally have no problem with this and think that their request is a
compliment to the activity and usefulness of the Confocal List.
However, I'm happy to consider any objections. Please feel free to
contact me (--soon, please) if you have any thoughts, either via the
List or directly to my email address ([hidden email]).

Thanks--

I think it's a great idea. A broader audience to benefit from our bits of wisdom and add to the discussions.

This makes sense to me as well.  I wonder if it would be worthwhile, as
part of the process, for the editor to contact the participants in the
discussion in advance.  There might be some additional factors to consider
that didn't make it to the list.

I think, if we do not hesitate to present our sometimes ill-thought out opinions to >2000 readers of the List, the readers of Microscopy Today could have them as well. It wouldn't make things much worse :)

I think this is great. I was just telling a colleague about the list today.

I think it would be good to have a little description of the list and make it clear that it is more of a microscopy list and questions about cameras, TIRF, widefield etc. etc as well as confocal questions are addressed.

Dear all--

Every comment about this that I've received has been positive but there
were a couple of suggestions.  One was that Microscopy Today not quote
any individuals without contacting them and receiving approval.  The
other was to put in a plug for the List when they use our material.
I've contacted Microscopy Today and they have no problems with either of
these, and so we're going to proceed.

Thanks to all who responded.  This List is full of good ideas.

As many of you might know, the microscopy list sponsored by MSA has been
covered by Microscopy Today for many years.  It seems to have gone fine.

I am in agreement with all others. The listserver is like a tomb of knowledge that should be freely mined for information and wisdom. It is interesting to comb through the older postings, to see how thinking changed over time. For example, in the early 90's you can see that discussions about objective lens aberrations was a very hot topic because researchers were waking up to how important a role those factors played in affecting confocal instruments, which were still relatively new back then.
