Hi everyone,
I am helping someone setup their system for live cell imaging with micro-manager. We observe a drift in northwest direction (order of 10 microns a second) in the XY stage, which is from Ludl and is controlled by MAC 5000 controller. Any tips on trouble-shooting? Seems the problem is with hardware. The OS (Windows 2000) complains about driver for MAC 2000 controller, but micro-manager controls the stage fine. However, I couldn't find the page to download the driver and test the XY stage with Ludl's software. Please point me to it if such a software is available. best Shalin mobile: +65-90694182 blog: shalin.wordpress.com Bioimaging Lab, Block-E3A, #7-10 Div of Bioengineering, NUS Singapore 117574 website: http://www.bioeng.nus.edu.sg/optbioimaging/colin/people.asp#shalinm |
Start from the joystick first. I had experienced stage drift caused by a faulty joystick. Swap a joystick is much cheaper than a controller.
If the joystick is not the culprit, then, most likely the controller or the stage itself is faulty. Sometimes, the manufacture gives terminal test commands to test the controller via RS232, use HyperTerm to connect to the control interface directly. Check Ludl's site for such troubleshooting info. Good luck. Tao On Fri, Nov 20, 2009 at 12:01 AM, Shalin Mehta <[hidden email]> wrote: Hi everyone, -- http://tongtao.com |

Shalin,
Email the folks at Ludl. They are very helpful in resolving these kind of issues. I would also suspect the joystick though. There should be black push up/push down switch in the joystick. Make sure that it is completely in the off position. For one of our drift issues that was the culprit. -Prabhakar Shalin Mehta wrote: > Hi everyone, > > I am helping someone setup their system for live cell imaging with > micro-manager. Hi Shalin,
Me too, I have seen this in the past. You need to make sure the joystick springs back into the central position when deflected in any direction, if it doesn't look for those switches that Prabhakar refers to. You'll need to make sure that the joystick is in the central position when you turn on the Mac 5000. If the joystick is not centered then the system is initialized the stage will continue to drift in the direction the joystick was deflected. Hi Shalin,
the problem might be much simpler - try to tighten the bolts on the stage. I noticed lateral drift after the microscope had been re-assembled after service.

Thanks everyone who responded on and off the list. Joystick was the
issue. I received documentation from Ludl that specifically advises to set the joystick in locked position (with those sliders) and not touching it for some time after the system is started. regards Shalin mobile: +65-90694182 blog: shalin.wordpress.com Bioimaging Lab, Block-E3A, #7-10 Div of Bioengineering, NUS Singapore 117574 website: http://www.bioeng.nus.edu.sg/optbioimaging/colin/people.asp#shalinm On Fri, Nov 20, 2009 at 9:52 PM, Vitaly Boyko <[hidden email]> wrote: > Hi Shalin, > > the problem might be much simpler - try to tighten the bolts on the stage.
