Leica SP5 Question

I am hoping someone can clarify something for me regarding a 'settings'
option on the Leica SP5.  Within 'Configurations -> Settings' - there is an
option to check Line Average - called 'Line Average during Live Acquisition'
- what does this mean exactly?  And how is it different from the Line
Averages you can set within 'Acquire -> Acquisition'??

Many thanks!!!

In fact it is the same if you do a snapshot. But it is better  if are not use the
average during live mode. You expose less time your sample.

Hi Ellen

This means that you will see the averaging when you scan using the "live" mode, not just when you hit the "start" button to acquire the image.  This is usually used in resonant scanning mode, since there averaging is sometimes needed to make out details.  This will naturally slow down the "live" scan speed.

Ellen,

If the line average option in the configuration is not checked, the line
average will not be applied in the live mode even when you put a line
average number (say 2) in the acquisition page; it is only applied when you
hit capture or start button.  So checking the line average option in the
configuration setting page will just enforce live average in the live mode.
By the default, you do not want to do the line average in the live mode,
which mainly allows you get a feel about the field of view so that you can
quickly adjust focus and determine your imaging settings, such as laser
power, etc.  You do not waste your time in the live mode, especially for
live specimens.  So most likely, you do not need line average in the live
mode.  For the final data acquisition by capture or start, you may need
line average to achieve a better SNR.  I hope this helps.
