Nikon A1R

Hello All,

We are considering the purchase of a Nikon A1R for our core microscopy
facility.  We have had an in-house demonstration and are familiar with
the system in general, but would like to get some feedback from
others.  Comments from anyone who has had a system installed in his or
her laboratory would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Nikon A1R

We are evaluating it and it plays well. There is an excellent SNR and
we are working on non linear excitation, successfully.
All the best

We installed an A1 with resonant scanner, point scanner and spectral detector a few months
ago. We will also get the VAAS detector sometime after Christmas, which will be exciting to
evaluate. So far we are very pleased with performance as well as the service we get from
Nikon. The only drawback is that the software, Elements, is a little premature and is
upgraded constantly. On the other hand, Nikon are very responsive to suggestions and
seem to integrate suggestions in new versions of Elements. There are some technical
limitations, for example you cannot do spectral detection in resonant mode. We will have to
see if that is something that will be added in the software or not. Overall though, without
any commercial interests, I think the A1 is definitely worth looking into and if it meets your
needs it would probably be one of the most powerful systems on the market that you can
get.

Re: Nikon A1R

They did an A1R demo at our facility last month; it looked like a good system. They admitted up front that the software is 'in progress' so if you run out and buy one now don't expect complete functionality. As mentioned though, they are receptive to feature requests so if you do buy an A1R you can suggest your own desired features to them.

Re: Nikon A1R

We've had one for about a month now, and our users like it a lot.  As others have mentioned, the software is a work in progress and a bit slow at the moment (this is supposed to be better in the newest machines running 64bit Vista) - but the image quality is excellent!

Re: Nikon A1R

Dear Jennifer
Two questions: how is the image quality of the Nikon c1Si relative  to
the Nikon A1. What parameters enter into you conclusions with this image
quality comparison ?
Thanks  I need a good way to evaluate confocal microscopes.
