Oil dispensers

Dear colleagues,

Not sure if the topic fits the theme of the listserv, but recently I've run
into troubles finding proper dispenser bottles for microscopy oil.

Very often purchased oil comes in a proper dispenser allowing placement of a
small drop of oil to the objective/slide. Nevertheless these dispensers are
relatively small and if one is to buy bigger volume of oil at once (like 200
ml) there is a need for extra dispensers.

What I'm looking for is a 20~50 ml brown glass dispenser bottle with glass
rod mounted to the lid. Any tips who might be selling them in the UK?

Thanks in advance,
Anton.

Thanks for the tips!

In the meantime I've found a quick and cheap solution. Perfect oil
dispensers can be bought from pharmacy (made for year drops). They sell
brown 10 ml bottles with screw lid with integrated small glass pipette and
they cost just 70p each.

Dear,
You can also place a 10ul tip on the bottle mouth, if it fits there and u
will get a very precised drop over the lens, we currently are using small
sample bottles of oil(8cc) with 10ul tip fixed at its mouth, in which we
put oil from stock, this is a very clean method since glass rod and other
free dipping system are very messy.
Thanks.

Hi Bhanu,
I like you idea.  I can't quite picture it, and was wondering you could
attach an image so we can get a better look.

Thanks
Neil

Hi,
the list serv is not allowing attachments(search google for oil dispensing
bottles)...just attach 10ul tip at the nozzle so it become more long, thus
getting a good reach to the lens, the drop will be placed precisely over
the aperture of the objective...
one thing more, in case you are doing live cell imaging on 60x or 100x with
oil just swab the bottom container(petridish, 96 well plate, 6 well plate)
with the immersion oil by using flint free or lens paper which will save
you from the risk of oil getting decrease since in multipoint experiment
when the container moves the bottom surface of culture dish takes away some
oil with it, so if its oil swabbed then no problems of this type.
Thanks
