To join, leave or search the confocal microscopy listserv, go to: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A0=confocalmicroscopy ***** I am a using Leica SP5 confocal Microscope, What are the best way to remove oil from the Objective lenses. Some one suggested me to use Simply Whatman paper, Some one said me to use the Ethanol in Whatman paper. I am interested to know the best way for lens cleaning. |

With metanol/etanol weekly. For perfect condition - cotton wool tangle with ether/isopropanol + lenses for checking. If you are using an inverted microscope, the best precaution is to remove the objectives from the nose piece when not in use and store them tip down, after simple cleaning with lens tissue. Modern oils (unlike the cedar-wood oil I used as a boy) don't dry up. Your major concern is getting the oil off the dry objectives, unless you have much better users than I've ever encountered. Here a piece of expanded polystyrene is very handy - break it to expose a fresh surface and use it, with firm pressure, to clean the lens. The freshly cleaved surface is critical.
