Hi, everyone.
I wonder if anyone can help me with this...
We have an Olympus FV1200 microscope.
For some time now we have frequent crashes, with messages as in the linked
pictures.

Tech support had no experience with this error, updates of software did not
help.
I am not able to reproduce conditions leading to the error. The only hint
is that it is frequent when stage navigation within FV1200 is used.
Otherwise, there is no pattern. It can happen when an image is
saved,  when measurement started, of measurement stopped, the stage moved
to another point. All kinds of situations and no real pattern.
Maybe someone had a similar experience.

Petro,
You could try looking at the Windows Event Viewer.
Under Windows Logs
Applications
Look for a red (!) Error at the time it crashed, the usual type is "Application Error".
Then click on it, and it will give you details like:

Faulting application name: MMI.exe, version:
Faulting module name: MSVCR100.dll, version: 10.0.40219.332, time stamp: 0x4e1a9f56
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x00010a4a

Then you might be able to pass that along to the tech support people.
Also, I suggest making sure the computer has the latest Windows Updates on it.

Hi Petro,

We have an Olympus FV1000 fully motorised system, a bit older than yours, but we do occasionally have issues when doing tile-scanning (using the motorised XY stage) and the Virtual channel. When we are using these options, temp files are created, which disappear when the acquisition has finished. Sometimes, we do see this kind of crashing when using these options (MMI error, not the Windows32 error) and I find in these circumstances, there are often temp files remaining in the user's folder. If these aren't removed/deleted, then they have ongoing issues during that session. However, if I delete them from the Temp folder and restart the software, it seems to be OK again. Perhaps this is worth a look for you.

Please note that our system is still running on Windows 7 as we are waiting on the Windows 10 uprade.

Hi Piter,

Is this a computer problem? That is, did it start "recently" -- i.e. in
last year, of a machine probably 10+ years old?

I suggest you:

* buy a Samsung SATA-6 SSD, for example, EVO Pro 1 TB ... a key feature
is: Samsung provides a reliable cloning software tool (on installation
it checks Samsung's web site and will let you know if there is a newer
version). ... You can go with other SSD brand, but if the microscope is
worth continuing using, a bit more for a Samsung SSD is worth minimizing
risks.

* Clone your current C: drive (i.e. many year old HDD) onto the Samsung
SSD (I'll assume the PC is new enough to use SATA interface). I suggest
running the free Glary Disk Cleaner (avoid installing any of the other
stuff they offer on installation). Glary also has a free Undelete
(again, avoid junk ware on install) that is useful in case anyone hits
the delete button on some file. Also make sure all Temp folders (both
Windows, Windows/sys32, and any Olympus temp) are empty ... no point in
cloning unneded stuff.

* Unplug (and label) the old HDD, connect the new SSD.

* PC (i.e. Windows 7) should boot to the new SSD (since unplugged the
old HDD).

I replaced whatever HDD or early gen SSD was in our FV1000MP not long
after I arrived. I now have 'pretty much all' our image core PC's on
SATA SSDs.

Not recommended for C: ... For big, fast data storage (1 Gigabyte/sec)
see my previous posts about NVMe arrays, ASUS Hyper M.2 array PCIe card
(now available PCIe gen4, $70, probably still requires BIOS bifurcation)
or GloTrends 4-bay M.2 NVME adapter ($300 [ouch], but no bifurcation,
just PCIe x16 slot, so work with old PCs). Acquisition PC's have 10 Gbe
(nominally 1.25 Gigabytes/sec) Ethernet cards, connected by CAT6 to a 10
Gbe 8-port switch.
