We are looking into get software to monitor when users log-on to a microscopy and when they log-out. We're hoping to be able to use something like this as an easier and fairer way to bill people for instrument use. If you know of any free/or not free software programmes that are able to do this please let me know. Thanks, Liz Division of Transplantation Immunology and Mucosal Biology King's College London |

To join, leave or search the confocal microscopy listserv, go to: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A0=confocalmicroscopy ***** Hi Elizabeth, we created 2 login scripts for login and logon. echo logon %username% %computername% %date% %time% >> c:\logs\logon.txt echo logoff %username% %computername% %date% %time% >> c:\logs\logoff.txt save this as .bat then save them to the machine you want to use them on. Then: Select the Windows button in the taskbar and in the 'Search programs and files' box, enter gpedit.msc Once the Local Group Policy Editor opens navigate to: User Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Scripts (Logon/Logoff). In the right hand side double click 'Logon', and then select 'Add'. In the 'Script Name' field, select 'Browse' and then select the logon batch file. Select OK and then Apply. then do the same for logoff. Then you should file a txt file with all the login and logoff information Hope this helps and if someone has some improvements to suggest I would happy to hear them!!! To join, leave or search the confocal microscopy listserv, go to: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A0=confocalmicroscopy ***** Hello, we are using a system like this, see http://www.mri.cnrs.fr/index.php?m=40&&l=2 This is an in-house development, but we are willing to share it with others. If you are interested, please contact me. Please note that we do not currently have a version that can be easily installed and adapted to a new environment. We are working on this, since there are currently two other facilities in France that want to use our system. So currently setting up the system in your place would probably need some work and some guidance from us. Best regards, Volker Baecker |

Login and logout is recorded in a central database together with computer name and user. This is integrated with our software for booking and billing but you can use it in a much simpler way. The nice thing with pgina is that we do not need to create users in machines neither active directory. Computer user accounts came directly from Agendo (again you can use a simpler way) and vanish after logout whereas files stay in a single pre-defined user account. To join, leave or search the confocal microscopy listserv, go to: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A0=confocalmicroscopy ***** In our Imaging Facility, I have been using Logon Monitor from Greyware for several years and it works well. The main version is installed on one computer and other simple, inexpensive versions are installed on each computer attached to a microscope and transmit the data to the main one over the internet. It also provides information about activity other than logon/logoff if you are interested. Output is an Excel file which we import directly into our billing program. Nice little script. You should also change the permissions on the scripts and the logs so that they can't be tampered with by non-admin users - especially now that you have publicised their location and function.
