Hello all,

I am a putting together a fluorescence microscope mainly for
deconvolution microscopy of fixed samples and have been looking at LED
light sources. Due to our limited budget, if am considering the 4 color
LED system from Thorlabs.

I am wondering if anyone is using it or has tested its intensity,
perhaps in comparison to other multi-color LED systems (e.g. Lumencor
Spectra X, COOLED or Xcite).

Any input is appreciated,

Chris

Hi Christopher,
I have not used Thorlabs LEDs. In case they are not good enough for you, an
option worth considering is Cairn's OptoLED:
http://www.cairn-research.co.uk/products/illumination/led-light-sources.
Their blue LED is certainly bright enough for typical sample with GFP .
Their electronics can transiently overdrive LED during the short exposure
time if your application demands. There are some other niceties in their
design. The 2 channel controller with 2 LEDs costs approx. USD 8K if I
recall correctly. But, there is a lite version which we haven't tried. If
you don't need all 4 channels at the same time, this may work for you.

I have heard good things about the Excite (EXFO) LED system
(http://www.ldgi-xcite.com/products-xled1-configurator.php). This company has been around for a while and products are good.
