Hi,

I am trying to sectioning mouse and rat knee joints. I would like to consistently section the
tissue in the range of 100um to 2mm in increments of 100um. However, I can not find a
cost-effective tool to do this.

Does anyone have a suggestion on a sectioning instrument for my application?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Best,
Paulos Mengsteab

Dear,

Just from my gut feeling I should consider a vibratome. There are a lot of references on google. Leica has some sofisticated instruments, but other companies also have good working model.

Hi Paulos,

You know that you will have to fix and decalcify your specimens first for any kind of sectioning (this size) right?

You will need to decalcify your specimens and use a good vibratome with a sapphire knife (Delaware Diamond Knives). Steel knives will not work. Cut with moderately high vibration amplitude and a very slow advance rate (<1.0 mm/sec).
