UPS for Zeiss 510 Meta

Dear list members,

We have a Zeiss 510 Meta system with the Argon, DPSS 561 and HeNe 633
lasers.  We like to buy a UPS for the system to protect the lasers
from power failures.  Any suggestions?
Many thanks in advance.

Best regards,
sheng

Re: UPS for Zeiss 510 Meta

Hello, I believe we use a PowerWare 9170. I think they are stackable so
you can buy what you want/need.

We have the same system and have had a GE (LP Series) UPS for it for
the last 3 years. No problems so far.

Re: UPS for Zeiss 510 Meta

Hi Sheng,

We have a Powerware PW9125 that has performed flawlessly for 5+ years.  We
actually had a power outage in the middle of an imaging system and the UPS
provided plenty of time to calmly shut the system down.  We got it from
Power Pros: www.powerprosinc.com.

At the least, be sure to do some comparison shopping as the UPS recommended
by Zeiss was maybe 50% more than what we finally paid.  There is nothing
special about a UPS "specifically" designed for the system.  The specs are
straighforward and the the rep at Power Pros had no problem configuring what
we needed.

All imaging systems like this should have a roubust UPS between it and house
line voltage.    One of the benefits of a UPS is its ability to act a as a
line polisher, maintaining a very steady electrical input to the instrument.
Aside from blatant power outages, surges and drops in line voltage can raise
hell with software and hardware function and longevity.

Good luck,
c

Re: UPS for Zeiss 510 Meta

Sheng

I second Carl.  We have UPS systems for all of our confocals and the best function is polishing.  The microscope actually runs off the battery and the unit keeps the battery charged.  The result (no experimental proof) is longer life on lasers and computers.

The GE 51002Y (LP Series) UPS I mentioned earlier was purchased
through Pam Ford at U.S. Tech.
