I'm looking for information/experiences on anyone who has upgraded the
software on a ZEISS LSM 510 Meta from LSM version 4.2 to ZEN. Thanks. |

Sometimes you can't upgrade if your Zeiss has the old SCSI cable, but
otherwise I've heard great things about Zen and have positive things to say about it compared to the older Zeiss software I have - but aside from making it more user-friendly I don't see too much reason to go from Zen if you are already proficient in the Zeiss 510 Meta software. I did upgrade to ZEN on our two LSM 510's. We can now run ZEN or LSM version 4.3 on both machines. There are is no increase in functionality and the interface is very different so there is a learning curve. We upgraded because we also have a LSM 710 that only runs ZEN and thought it would be good to have identical software for the user's benefit. With the LSM 710 there are additional functions especially regarding the spectral detection. A good side benefit is that you get a new up-to-date PC and a single large monitor. It is hard for me to say this since I think so highly of the LSM software but the ZEN software interface is an improvement over LSM as well.
Hope that helps, Louie ----- Original Message ----- From: "Valerie Lawrence" <val.lawrence@FPINNOVATIONS.CA> To: CONFOCALMICROSCOPY@LISTS.UMN.EDU Sent: Wednesday, December 2, 2009 12:22:27 PM Subject: Zeiss LSM510 ZEN upgrade I'm looking for information/experiences on anyone who has upgraded the software on a ZEISS LSM 510 Meta from LSM version 4.2 to ZEN. If it ain't broke, don't fix. First, it may not be compatible for your model, second, ZEN seems have memory leak issues in its current incarnation.

Dear Valerie,
we have upgraded our 3.2 system to ZEN 2008. This is as far as you can go at the moment. Works without problems. The biggest advantage in my opinion is how the different windows are organized which gives new users a kind of visual operation protocol. They grasp it faster and my training sessions are a little shorter. Good luck Elisa On Wed, Dec 2, 2009 at 6:22 PM, Valerie Lawrence <[hidden email]> wrote: I'm looking for information/experiences on anyone who has upgraded the -- PD Dr. Elisa Ferrando-May Bioimaging Center University of Konstanz P.O.
