confocal in medical science

Dear List
I want to know use of Confocal Microscope in Medical Sciences for a
presentation in a Medical Institute. The topic i am given is "Non invasive
technique in Biomolecule Imaging" emphasis on Confocal microscopy.
Any inputs will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Re: confocal in medical science

Hi Charu,

I do not know if confocal is being used for non-invasive
imaging....but multiphoton technologies for sure.

Many intra-vital imaging modalities for blood vessels, brain cells and
skin are already supplied as commercial solutions...

Hope thats of some help.

Re: confocal in medical science

A device called DermaInspect is used in Europe.  It is not approved in
North America yet.  It is basically a 2 photon microscope on an
articulated arm that is used to check moles and other skin blemishes
for cancer.  It uses 2 photon autofluorescence as its signal.

Hi Charu,

Maybe a bit late for your presentation ...

confocal endoscopes - see CellVizio, Mauna Kea Technologies. Not the
only c.e. available.

I believe there are confocal fundus instruments in ophthalmology,
though I get the impression optical coherence tomography (OCT) has
found more utility in eye disease.
