Hello ,
Please share prices/quotes of current Zeiss, etc confocal systems, e.g. Zeiss LSM710, LSM 5 DUO and or analogue
systems from other companies that you bought recently/planning to buy.
My friends from Nothern Europe asked me about these prices so that they can negotiate best contract
with local representatives (as you most probably know in Europe prices are higher). This info also
may be useful for any people that are planning to buy confocal sytems.
Thanks,
Arvydas

Hello Arvydas, In the May 2008 ADVANCED IMAGING
Industry News section, it mentioned The David H. Murdock Research Institute(
DHMRI, Kannapolis, N.C.) is “among the first institutions in the world to
take delivery of the new LSM 710”, I guess you should check people there
for the actually price (not the quote). As far as I know, the LSM 710 with
spectral detection (34 channels) is around 550k-630k. Olympus FV1000 MP
is around 750K ( including pulse laser). The eventual price depends a lot on
the final configuration though. Lai Ding From: Hello , Please share

Please don't think ill of me for coming to the defense of a major corporation, but in fairness, Zeiss is a multi-national corporation; i.e. Zeiss USA is a separate arm from Zeiss GmbH. Prices are often set based on local economies, exchange rate of currency, demand for units etc. Hence, the price of a system in Europe may differ significantly from a system delivered in Switzerland or Slovenia. Such practice is not unique to microscope vendors. For example, European cars cost a lot less in the USA compared to prices in Europe.
Don't be surprised if a microscope vendor feels offended and doesn't want to explain to you why just because a 710M costs only $700k (or whatever) in the USA, you can't get a quote for the same price in your local currency. Moreover, might I add that it is difficult
to compare systems that are ordered with different components. Modern confocals
have differing configurations making it difficult to compare apples to apples.
This is even more difficult when comparing Zeiss to Leica where an apples to
apples comparison may not be realistic. I believe that Zeiss USA will openly state
that the price of the LSM710 is $535k. This however does not reflect your own
personal configurations, therefore the price will vary considerably. Cheers, Brian D Armstrong PhD Light Microscopy Core Manager Beckman Research Institute City of 626-359-8111 x62872 From: Please don't think ill of me for coming to the defense of a major
