The UT Southwestern Electron Microscopy Facility is looking for qualified EM technicians in the DFW area to provide part-time help during times when our workload is especially high or we are shorthanded. The plan is to have one or two people, perhaps retirees, who would be willing to work on call for an hourly wage, kind of like substitute teachers. We envision that the work would be primarily sample processing and sectioning. Anyone interested please send your CV to me @ [hidden email].

This is a nice model for dealing with these inevitable em based work overloads.   PT em technicians that have the necessary experience and skill sets are just so hard to find.  If ok, we'll consider (particularly the use of retirees) this as a template for our future needs.    Please continue to post updates on the response.

An update: Well this seemed like a good idea but so far I have had no replies from potential candidates, although I have had friendly notes from a few colleagues. I don't know whether there is no one out there or whether they don't read the listservs. I posted on the Microscopy List as well.

It just seems so hard to fond people with the skills and desire to do tem/sem today....

cryo-tem is even a smaller job pool...
