It's been suggested that I explore options for training in other core facilities or possibly attend a conference. While there are plenty of conferences which may cover the taxa, few specialize in confocal microscopy. Thus I thought I'd ask if anyone has any suggestions? I've been at this since 2001, but I would like to add to my skill set. Any pointers or suggests on or off list are welcomed. Thank you! A couple https://mdibl.org/course/qfm/ Quantitative Fluorescence Microscopy 2017 ... pplication deadline April 17, 2017, course director is Simon Watkins, David Piston is one of the instructors. http://www.mbl.edu/education/courses/analytical-quantitative-light-microscopy (deadline was in January) http://www.mbl.edu/education/courses/optical-microscopy-imaging/ (deadline is in June, Sept course) mbl ... if you have most of the summer, the Physiology course is impressive. https://meetings.cshl.edu/courses.aspx?course=C-QICM&year=17 (deadline was in January). Regardless of whether you go to the above, or find another course, "BYOS" (bring your own specimens ... useful to coordinate with the instructors). I also strongly encourage you to work with your local colleagues and vendors. Maybe YOU should organize a local course in the area(s) of interest most important to you, colleagues, potential attendees. p.s. MDI ... maybe you should work with a confocal microscope company to bring a scope to this workshop, with you and a vendor as confocal instructors: best way to learn is by teaching, http://www.calamara.com/news/summer-2017-new-workshop-in-bar-harbor-maine-forays-into-the-microscopic-world-of-the-maine-coast/ On 3/9/2017 1:55 PM, Christian Elowsky wrote: > ***** > To join, leave or search the confocal microscopy listserv, go to: > http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A0=confocalmicroscopy > Post images on http://www.imgur.com and include the link in your posting. > ***** > > My primary research appointment revolves around imaging in plants/algae and occasionally in filamentous fungi. They have training sessions, manager sessions, and their platform/poster sessions are diverse. Sometimes you can get lucky and hit a symposium that is directly related to your specialty. The program for this year¹s meeting has not been set, but the plenary session look pretty decent. Even includes a symposium that should have something related to diseases in plants. http://www.microscopy.org/MandM/2017/ Just talking with people who are doing the primary science is sometimes more enlightening than didactic approaches. Thank you for the contact information. Robert, I had thought about that meeting, and I do contact many people. I think I need to sit back and see how things are done as well. George, as always I have no idea how you keep everything at your fingertips. We will have a new confocal system shortly, so we will have access to reps there as well. Being in Nebraska, it's sometimes difficult to travel far and wide, but the suggestions offered here and after are all very close. Thank you all for the replies and pointers.
